So Sad I Could Cry
, 07 05th, 2008We had a lot of fun yesterday, but I have nothing to show for it. I spent all evening taking pictures, and some good ones if I do say so myself. I was so excited to see my pictures of the fireworks on my computer that I came right home and tried to transfer them to my computer, but ALL my pictures from yesterday had mysteriously dissapeared. Only the pictures from yesterday and nothing else were no where to be found.
I am totally bummed. There will be no scrapbook pages happening about my family’s 4th of July from this year and I feel totally responsible. I was up late trying to find my pictures, but they were just gone. Then of course, I dreamt about finding them all night. Arghhh!!!
Maybe Not Such Obvious Perks
, 07 03rd, 2008My job has obvious perks. I work very close to home, have Mondays off, work for my brother-in-law who insists I don’t work too hard.
The perk that is undenyably my favorite is something that might not come to mind when you think about job perks. I meet awesome people. I love the kind of job that I have and the fact that I work closely with people over a period of time and get to know them. Some I know better than others, some I can even recognize their voice when they call, and some have become my friends.
Today Lisa came to see me. She had two of her three (soon to be five) kids in tow. I love it when she comes to see me. Thank goodness she started coming to Kelly to have her pictures taken or we would never have met. Same with Hailey and Anne-Marie. There are people who will call the studio just to check up on me because they were thinking about me. I love that. At very few jobs do you get close enough to your clients that they become a part of your life outside of work. I’m glad that is the case with mine.
Firecrackers
, 07 02nd, 2008The 4th of July is my favorite holiday. I love the festivities that go along with it. I have very fond memories of the 4th of July when I was younger. The days festivities would start with the Kaysville parade. My grandpa would go down to the parade route early in the morning and get us a great spot usually under some kind of shade (a house, or a tree) and always right on the edge of the curb. No sitting behind other people for us. The edge of the curb allowed us to get the maximum amount of candy. You know the high quality stuff: salt water taffy, hard candy, tootsie rolls. It was awesome.
The next thing would be running through the sprinklers at my grandpas. I don’t know what it was about that, but it was so much neater at Grandpa’s than at our own house. Our afternoon of water fun would be capped of with a barbecue. Hamburgers, chips, and tuna salad with some kind of strawberry shortcake for desert.
The best part was yet to come. At dusk we would head over to Davis High for fireworks. They always put on a great show, but to me the best part was hanging out before the fireworks started. Sitting on blankets on the grass in the dark having a great time with my family.
Ever since I was little, I would get so excited for the 4th of July, and now is no different. Especially this year. Since we have been married, we have gone to Bear Lake with Chad’s family over the 4th of July and I have missed out on MY kind of 4th. This year, we decided to stay at home and so I get to have an old fashioned 4th of July with my family. I don’t think there will be running throught the sprinklers, but maybe a movie to replace it.
What are your 4th of July traditions if any?
Happy 4th of July!!!
It’s Officially Summer
, 06 24th, 2008And at our house that means YARDWORK! It was our anniversary last week. We have made it 5 whole years. Amazing how time flies. For our anniversary we didn’t buy each other gifts, but instead bought things for our yard. Chad got off early from work and went and purchased a fountain for a flower bed that has been waiting for such a purchase. That flower garden was baren of flowers and the fountain looked so lonely by itself so we went and got some plants to fill it in. There is nothing better than going to the plant store in the summer. I could spend all day at the nursery. If only I had an unlimited budget to buy as much as I wanted.

I also went and bought plants and pots to finish off our gazebo area. I love planting in containers and can’t wait until they fill in.

On a side note (a very exciting side note)… We have tomatoes! Chad noticed the other day that there were teeny tomatoes on one of our plants. I can’t wait until they turn red and are ready to eat!!!

A Call For Help!
, 06 08th, 2008A couple weeks ago, my mom brought me a bag full of knitting needles. They belonged to my Grandma Hall who was a wonderful knitter and made all kinds of sweaters and blankets and was somewhat of a knitter-for-higher.
When she was alive I had no real interest in learning how to knit. She did show me how to do the knit stitch one Sunday evening as she was watching Murder She Wrote (every Sunday evening). I don’t recall anything that she showed me that day, and even if I did, I don’t know how to even start a knit project.
I sat down and tried to teach myself how to knit from the directions in various books and websites. I worked on it for a few hours and quit due to frustration. I can make stitches, and I’m sure that I will get it eventually, but I think it would be so much easier if someone could show me how.
So here is my question. Can anyone give me knitting lessons?
Am I Really That Old?
, 05 22nd, 2008My baby brother graduated from highschool on Monday. Sitting in the Dee Event Center looking at all those kids wearing their silver and blue, and hearing our school hymn being sung, brought back some serious memories.
Unlike most people, I had an awesome time in highschool. I always say that I would go back in a heartbeat. I had the best group of friends and although I may not have had boyfriend all the time, I had something to do on both Friday and Saturday nights.
I remember graduation like it was yesterday. Graduation day was so exciting while being sad at the same time. We had to be to Weber State by noon and were expected to just hang out I guess. I spent the time getting pictures taken with every person who seemed to be important to me. Now that I look back at my scrapbook, I may have gone overboard. There are a couple people I don’t know why they are in there, but oh well. For the most part, I am so glad I have those pictures. Especially those pictures of my closest friends.
Stephanie, Rainee and Keli were my very best friends through highschool. Rainee and I have been best friends for so long (we met in 2nd grade). Stephanie and I needed each other so much during highschool and I am so glad that I had her with me every step of the way. We couldn’t have survived Chantel or Camille without each other!! Keli was special. I feel that we became friends at just the right time. She is a huge example of strength and perseverance.
Tara and I met in 10th grade. I didn’t like her. There wasn’t a reason, except that she was dating one of my best friends from junior high and I didn’t like him when he was with her. We never really spoke until senior year. We got sat next to each other in English. One day she asked me why we weren’t friends before that class. I flat out told her, I knew who you were but I didn’t like you. She said she felt the same. Well it turned out that being in that boring English class together was good for us. We had a lot of fun senior year, and both of us wished that we hadn’t been so judgemental earlier.

Now my boys. Danny, Brian and Marc became my instant best friends in German class sophomore year. They were funny nice and not bad looking. We had a blast together. Marc and Brian were my best guy friends and Brian even bailed me out for a dance dilema when my boyfriend at the time was being a putz!
There are so many more friends, but if I were to list them all this post would become even longer. As I type this I am once again happy and sad. Happy because I am remembering so many things that happened with these exceptional friends of mine and sad that I only see two of them any more. Thanks Steph and Rainee cause if we quit seeing each other I will be devastated!!
A Wedding
, 05 18th, 2008
My little brother got married on Saturday. It was such a wonderful day. He married Donna, who I am happy to say, is a fun and cute girl that seems to make him so happy. She will fit in to our family nicely. I am glad to have them married. The last couple of days have been very busy and very tiring! Our Hall family can put on a pretty nice wedding, but we do it mostly ourselves (uncle is a caterer, aunt does flowers) so we were involved in nearly every aspect. It involved a lot of late nights and a lot of runnig around.
I made their sign in book, and I had every intention of posting some pictures of it, but in my haste I forgot. Maybe I can steal it for a minute and take some pictures. It probably didn’t help that I finished it at 1:30 yesterday afternoon.
It was a Saturday well spent.
My Sister
, 05 13th, 2008This is my sister Janel. She has been living in St. George for the last three years going to Dixie to get her nursing degree. Two weekends ago we went to St. George for her graduation and to move her HOME! I am so excited that she is back in northern Utah. We have already gone to a movie together on my Monday off. She is going to be living in Salt Lake somewhere and will be even closer to me than if she were to live at my parents. I’m so glad to have her home. It’s nice to see her at dinner at my parent’s, and the best thing is that I now have someone to go do things with.
My Two Moms
, 05 11th, 2008I hate mothers day. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to sit through church and listen to people go on and on about how much they love being moms and how much of a blessing it is. Yeah, I get it. The only thing I like about mothers day is being able to honor mine and Chad’s moms. We have great moms!

Kaylynn is the best mother in law any one could ask for. I really lucked out in the in law department. They are awesome. Kaylynn is so much fun to be around. I love to have her and Billy over for dinner. They are great company. I can’t wait for her to be granny to my kids. They will be some lucky kids. I am always impressed with how much she loves Kelly’s kids and how much they love her in return. Thanks so much for welcoming me into your family and always making me feel comfortable!

My mom is the best. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful relationship with my mom. We never fought. I was glad that we didn’t butt heads like some of my friends and their mom’s. Every Monday, my mom and I go to lunch together. It is a great time for us to strengthen our relationship. It has always been just the two of us and I look forward to it every week. Now that Janel is home, and we are adding Donna to our family, I’m sure our group will grow, but how lucky are we to have such a generous, fun, and loving mom? Oh, I can’t wait for her to be a grandma either. I know she will be excellent. Love you mom!
A Project for Monday
, 04 29th, 2008Chad was lucky enought to get today off from work. We had planned to do some spring cleaning in the house. It definitely needs it. A couple weeks ago we got down and dirty with our bedroom (you could have made a beagle out of the hair we swept up from under our bed), and this weekend, I gave my bathroom the hour and a half it needed. I had grand plans today to clean windows and cabinets and the fridge.
A couple days ago, we started talking about possibly getting a pergola or a gazebo for our cement square in our back yard. I want patio furniture and a place to congregate outside. I have been entertaining this idea for a while and finally got Chad on board. Wo we looked at patio furniture and gazebos the other day, and found the set that would suit us perfectly.
Today we woke up and headed to the Depot to pick up our stuff. Little did we know that it would take us 7.5 hours to assemble the dang thing and the furniture. It was well worth it. We had grand plans of having dinner out there tonight, but the hours of hard labor and sunburned skin have done us in. I can’t wait to have people over and use our new setup.
Here is a picture of what it looks like. All it needs is some planters around the main entrance to beautify it a little.

So anyone want to come over for dinner? I’m taking reservations for the patio!
